WELCOME TO THERAPY!

My name is Dr. Burke and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LF60766336) for the state of Washington. Entering the helping field has been a lifelong journey for me. Throughout my life I have experienced many personal hardships from trauma to many types of loss; from uncomfortable sensations of anxiety and depression to figuring out who I am entering the next chapter of my life. Reaching out for help and talking to a professional was the best thing I did for myself. I became a therapist because I wanted to dedicate my life doing something I care deeply about: helping people heal and reclaim their lives the way I did.

In addition to my personal stories of pain and growth, my educational experiences have allowed me to take my passion and put it to work helping others in my community. I went to undergraduate school at the University of Washington in Seattle and graduated with a BA in Psychology and Women Studies. I also hold both a Master and Doctorate of Psychology in Couple and Family Therapy from the California School of Professional Psychology.

In my practice, I work with adult individuals, couples, and families and treat issues of relational distress, challenges in life changes (such as adjusting to having a baby, the loss of a job, starting collage, moving towns, etc.), struggles with anxiety and depression (such as feeling overwhelmed, racing thoughts, putting yourself down, and difficulty with self-esteem), and not feeling like you are living your true life.

I conceptualize healing through a theoretical framework of post modernism. In practice I derive my work from Family Systems Theory, the Gottman Couple Method, Narrative Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. In essence, I believe you are the expert of your own life. Unwelcomed visitors, such as anxiety and depression, can take you away of your authentic self and create situations that you and the people around you do not like. As your therapist, we will work together to unpack your story, challenge negative thoughts and behaviors that are getting in your way; negatively impacting your relationships. We will build tools to equip you to handle difficult situations and uncomfortable emotional experiences. We will work together to instill balance, thrive in acceptance of what you cannot change, increase a sense of peace while reducing stress, and enriching the meaningful relationships that you have in your life.

Feel free to message me if you have any questions regarding my services. In my private practice, I partner with Mindful Therapy Group (MTG). MTG covers the administrative pieces of my business, such as scheduling, navigating insurance and technology for virtual services. Due to the pandemic, my services are currently provided virtually through teletherapy sessions.
